Dear The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs
      As many Canadians are, I am happy with the changes Mr. Trudeau is bringing to Canada and its foreign policies. However, I have been disappointed that The Honourable Stéphane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has met with Egyptian military coup leader Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi during a recent visit to Egypt. 
      Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is accused of committing crimes of murder as he lead the army in Egypt to kill hundreds of protesters. I believe that such a visit by the Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister is against Canadian values, as it gives the green light to the mass human rights violations going on in Egypt. 
      One of the main crimes committed by Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is the Rabaa Square Massacre which has been described by Human Rights Watch as "one of the world’s largest killings of demonstrators in a single day in recent history". In less than 12 hours on August 14th 2013, the Egyptian police and army killed more than 900 protesters under the orders of Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
      It is unfortunate that - according to pro-regime Egyptian newspapers - Stéphane Dion has praised Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for his role in "supporting peace and stability in the region".  It is unfortunate that history will record that the Canadian government has endorsed and praised a military dictatorship which is - according to internationally renowned human rights organizations - accused of mass killings, torture, rape, mass detentions, and death sentences. The crimes of Al-Sisi regime are the same - if not exceeds - that of terrorist regimes like ISIS. It does not make sense to support a tyrant regime in order to combat terrorist groups which commit the same types of crimes.
      I urge the Canadian government to not get engaged with the military dictatorship in Egypt and to not visit or endorse officials in the regime who are accused of mass human rights violations.
